The Life of a Stay at Home Dog

Good morning beautiful humans, Happy Saturday! Thank you for spending part of your morning with me or evening depending on where you are in this big world. Welcome to Life with Lane, my life through words, pictures, and food!

The Life of a Stay at Home Dog

Before I start with anything, I want to say Happy 18th Birthday to my handsome nephew Xavier. He came into this life running and hasn’t stopped since, lol! He’s made all of us better people and I thank God for him.

As I told you a few days ago, April is National Poetry Month here in Orlando. So, I have another poem for you today. I wrote this poem years ago when I had both of my dogs. They were always my inspiration and even though I only have Onyx now, they both still are. Inspiration can come in many forms and often mine is from my dog(s).

So, today here is my poem, Life of a Stay at Home Dog.

Dusty and Onyx 2018

He walks you to the door, licks your nose for good luck and sends you off to work.
Sad thing, he usually never leaves his spot.
He paces back and forth and inches closer to the door.
Every time he hears someone walk near
hoping that it is you returning to him.
His tail wags and the footsteps come near
but he whimpers when the footsteps walk past.

His food and water bowls stay full just in case his true love doesn’t come back.
As the end of the day draws to an end, he puts his head on the carpet
and sighs in defeat. Suddenly his ears go up and he hears footsteps again.
This time the door opens and his master walks in.
He leaps up over and over again in joy and barks loudly.
He gets lots of treats, ear rubs, and a long walk.
But in the back of his mind he dreads tomorrow.

Because he knows this vicious cycle will happen again This is the life of a stay at home dog.
