Although it’s been over a year since my Onyx left me, I still miss him dearly. It’s still weird waking up in the middle of the night and not seeing him asleep in his bed next to mine. Coming home without him waiting for me by the door. The hardest thing for me has been going to the store and remembering that I don’t need puppy snacks anymore. Walking by that aisle and not crying. For almost 16 years I bought dog food, snacks, and toys.
I still get emails reminding me that Onyx is due for more treats and heart medication. I really need to unsubscribe to those sites. Life without him has been pretty weird. For the first time since he passed I saw a picture of a schnauzer and I thought, maybe getting a new puppy wouldn’t be so bad. I’m not actually going to do it but that’s progress.
Dogs come into our lives and make it better. They teach us unconditional love and the true meaning of being a friend. They live in our hearts forever. We are truly never without them once they enter our lives.
